Cowgate Farm Hawkinge near Folkestone Kent Some of you might have seen T.H.S signs when you have been out and about and thinking what does T.H.S stand for. It stands for Temporary Holiday Sites that's where the farmer can let the DA have the field for 28 days. A lot of DAs use those fields so that members can go somewhere for a holiday without costing them a fortune. We have two THS sites one at Grove House Farm at Elham and the other one at Cowgate Farm Hawkinge near Folkestone. The one at Elham is in May just after the Bank Holiday for one week. Cowgate Farm Hawkinge is in July to August for three weeks. They are both nice sites and not far from Folkestone and Canterbury. Lets tell you more about our site at Cowgate Farm at Hawkinge, its about 4 miles from Folkestone and about 12 miles from Canterbury, a lot of members from the north and the west country come there as the place has a lot history around there. The Battle of Britain Museum is about 2 miles from the site and that's a good place to go and have look around. Some of the members use this site if they are going to France and have got an early start to catch the ferry so we keep a place for them near the gate or they stay there if they have got a late ferry back from France so they can rest before going home. The Stewards who have run the site for the last ten years are very friendly, they have got to know a lot of members from the North, the West County and other D,A.'s. The site is not far from Hythe, Dover, Deal, Dymchurch and there are lots of small villages with lots of sights and quaint little pubs. A lot of the older members would know that Hawkinge is known for the role it played during the second world war, Hawkinge was the closest operational airfield to occupied France and played a major role in defending our skies during the Battle of Britain. Hawkinge being the closest to the enemy it was not unusual for the areas of the village to be bombed. So you can see there is lot of history around Hawkinge and well worth a visit. There no need to book as it is big field and lots of room. |

Now let me tell you about Grove House Farm Elham T.H.S Again it is not that far from Folkestone and Canterbury and it is a very nice site. We only have this for one week after our charity meet. It is the childrens half term, so it is somewhere for the members to stay with children while they are on holiday from school. There is a lot of places to go and see and some nice walks if you like walking or you can have a drive into Folkstone or Canterbury for a day. Again it is well worth a visit. |
